Repairs and replacements
Common requests include leaking shower fittings, poor flow, toilets that will not flush correctly, cracked or leaking waste fittings, replacement taps and moving a basin, bath or toilet.
Say whether the fitting is fed by mains water, a storage tank or a pump if you know. For an electric shower, include the make and model and describe whether the fault appears to involve water flow, temperature or electrical power. Electrical work may require a suitably qualified electrician.
Planning a bathroom installation
Give the approximate room size, list the fittings being installed and explain whether they will remain in their current positions. Moving soil pipes, wastes or water supplies can change the scope considerably.
Clarify whether your request is for plumbing only or whether you also need removal, tiling, flooring, plastering, electrical work and decoration. Ask each trader to state exactly what their quote includes so you can compare like with like.
Before agreeing to the work
Check who will supply the fittings, how changes will be agreed and whether making good is included. For a larger refurbishment, ask for a written schedule, payment stages and confirmation of the insurance held by the business.
