Hard water and limescale
Thames Water describes all water in its region as hard because of the minerals picked up from chalk and limestone sources. If Thames Water supplies the property, limescale may be relevant when describing problems with taps, showerheads, hot-water fittings or appliances.
Limescale is not proof of a particular fault. Give the plumber the symptoms rather than assuming a part needs replacing. Use the supplier’s postcode information where the exact hardness matters.
Flats, conversions and shared services
For a flat or converted building, tell the plumber which floor is affected, whether the stop tap serves only your home and whether the freeholder or managing agent controls any shared pipework. Check the lease or building arrangements before authorising work to communal services.
Access, parking and restricted working hours can also affect a London quote. Mention them at the start so the trader can plan the visit realistically.
Describe a London plumbing job clearly
Include the full postcode, property type, floor, affected room and whether the water can be isolated. For planned bathroom or heating work, say whether fittings are staying in the same positions and whether building-management permission may be needed.
No local-office claim
